The Frederick Douglass Memorial and Historical Association (FDMHA) is pleased to announce its annual Essay Scholarship Contest for 2017. FDMHA organizes the essay contest (in addition to other educational scholarships) to empower talented young people and to honor the life and legacy of Frederick Douglass.
Frederick Douglass was one of the most important figures in the abolitionist movement and a highly respected statesman during the 19th century. His rise from slavery to becoming a counselor to President Abraham Lincoln continues to inspire generations.
The winner of the essay contest is awarded a $3,000 prize. A second place winner receives $2,000 and a third place winner receives $1,000.
