On Tuesday June 6, 2017, the Frederick Douglass Memorial and Historical Association (FDMHA) celebrated its 117th Anniversary while also celebrating the 200th birthday of Frederick Douglass.
The combined celebration was organized by FDMHA in concert with Kenneth B. Morris, Jr., the great, great, great grandson of Frederick Douglass and President of the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives.
The event took place at the Frederick Douglass Home located at 1411 W Street SE, Washington DC. Attendees included FDMHA Trustees, students, community leaders and members of the public.
During and after the event, FDMHA donated 250 copies of a special Bicentennial edition of the book titled “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass: An American Slave” written by Frederick Douglass.
Kenneth Morris, Jr. helped coordinate the publication and promotion of the book. He also delivered a speech and autographed the books given away during the event.
